Cairns is up in the tropics of Queensland and the perfect escape from damp Sydney for a long weekend.
Day 1 is a trip to Green Island. Not the usual Australian imaginative naming (think Snowy Mountains) as it was named after Cook’s astronomer – coincidentally taken along in 1770 for the transit of Venus. We took a glass bottomed boat over the reef and Iz watched the seagulls.

And on Green Island was a crocodile zoo and we watched them getting fed.

And a chance to spend a little time on the beach before boating back to Cairns for a swim in the pool and a wander round town as Iz slept in her buggy.

Day 2 was a train into the rain forest, a walk around Kuranda, and a gondola back to sea level. Followed by a swim in the pool and a nap (for Iz).

And back to Sydney after a great weekend.
